An Exciting New Addition!

It was only a dream a couple of years ago when we would look out at a dilapidated old barn and think how nice it would be to turn it into something.
Well it happened and now we have a new guest room as part of the b&b but its no ordinary room as it has its own private lounge and a bath to rest those weary muscles. We started the conversion in October 2021 by fixing up the tired looking stone work and clearing the site of rubbish, old corrugated iron and the build up of soil over the last 100 years. By February the foundations were down and we began building the kit which would sit behind the stone work to make the building well insulated and also structurally sound as the timber kit would become the load bearing part of the building. The barn itself was very small but we decided to extend it on the south gable with a vaulted ceiling and large windows to make the most of the views and sunshine when we have it.
Fast forward a couple of months and the building was water tight with just a few very last minute jobs to do. Ok it wasn't 100% done but it was passable in order to start accepting guests in the middle of May. We were absolutely shattered after a busy winter which felt a little bit like an episode from Challenge Anneka or DIY SOS.
The season started with a very full diary and we had to get used to the extra work load each day with change overs but also on the meals front. After a while things calmed down and we found our stride and the season passed in a flash. Now that we've had a chance to put our feet up we can enjoy looking out at our new addition with its Nordic lodge vibes and soon welcome the wonderful guests who can enjoy this private space.
Maybe this year we'll get a chance to get the garden back under control.
